Airshare at a Quarter Century: Growth and the Path Forward

Airshare celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, recognizing its evolution from a regional operator into a national private aviation provider. Founded in 2000 with a modest fleet and a focus on the central United States. Today however, the company now serves clients nationwide and offers a comprehensive suite of private aviation solutions.

  • Charter Services
  • Aircraft Maintenance

SherpaReport talked to CEO John Owen about growth, partnerships, and the vision for the future. Airshare’s strategic growth was accelerated in 2023 by the acquisition of Wheels Up’s aircraft management business, and has cemented Airshare as one of the largest private jet operators in the U.S. It now offers its fractional program and jet cards coast-to-coast in the lower 48 states and also sees quite a bit of international travel. John noted that, in particular, they have a growing customer base in the Northeast, Southeast, and along the Atlantic coast, with their own office, passenger area, and an exclusive hangar complex at Teterboro Airport.

It continues to grow its day-based jet card and fractional ownership model, offered on the Embraer Phenom 300 and Bombardier Challenger 3500. John Owen noted “People are so used to these hourly based models. When you present them with our offering, ……….. they see how it is really unique and makes a ton of sense.”
Earlier this year, the company became the “Official Private Aviation Provider” of the PGA, including the Ryder Cup and the PGA Championship and PGA National Club Championship through 2029. Overall, increasing its visibility as it continues to expand.
